Sports and Programs

Special Olympics BC offers summer and winter sports for ages eight and up, youth programs for ages two to 18, Athlete Leadership opportunities, and health programs.

Sports

  • Summer Sports

    10-pin bowling, athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, and swimming

  • Winter Sports

    5-pin bowling, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, floorball, snowshoeing, and speed skating

Programs

  • Youth Programs

    Active Start (ages 2 to 6), FUNdamentals (ages seven to 11), and Special Olympics BC Unified Sports® (offered in schools for ages 12 to 18)

  • Inclusive Health

    Healthy Athletes screenings, Club Fit, Fit Families & Friends, health advocacy training, and more

  • Athlete Leadership

    Empowering athletes to lead the way as advocates, speakers, and community leaders

Other Opportunities

  • Coach Development

    Opportunities include Coach Development Workshops, NCCP Special Olympics Competition Sport Workshop, and coach certification

  • Changing Attitudes

    Campaigns include the Special Olympics Global Week of Inclusion, Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools®, and Spread the Word

Program Quality

As an Accredited provincial sport organization supported by the Government of British Columbia and viaSport British Columbia, Special Olympics BC delivers high-quality sport programs that meet and exceed standards for ethical, safe, inclusive, and quality operations. Accredited organizations are a sport or sport discipline’s authoritative body, operating in at least five regions in B.C., and with responsibility for oversight, growth, and development.
