2026 Winner: Jonathan Robins

Creston athlete Jonathan Robins is the deserving recipient of Special Olympics BC's Spirit of Sport Award!
For more than two decades, Robins has demonstrated the true meaning of sportsmanship through his dedication, leadership, and commitment to supporting others. A respected athlete, teammate, mentor, and volunteer, he embodies the values of Special Olympics both in competition and throughout his community.
"Jonathan exemplifies what it means to be a true ambassador of sport, not just through athletic performance, but through his character, leadership, and tireless commitment to others."
Robins has been actively involved with Special Olympics BC for 22 years, participating in a wide range of sports including alpine skiing, Club Fit, 5-pin bowling, curling, soccer, and bocce. His enthusiasm for sport and his commitment to personal growth have made him a positive role model for athletes across his Local and beyond.
A standout alpine skier, Robins has proudly represented Special Olympics BC on some of the highest stages in the movement. He competed at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Korea in 2013 and Austria in 2017, as well as the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in St. Albert and Jasper, Alberta, in 2012 and Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 2016. Throughout every competition, he has demonstrated determination, resilience, and respect for fellow competitors.
His nominators say that while his athletic accomplishments are impressive, it is his character that truly sets him apart.
"Whether on the field, court, or in the community, Jonathan consistently goes above and beyond to support his teammates, encourage fair play, and inspire those around him."
Robins is known for being one of the first people to arrive and one of the last to leave. He regularly helps with setting up and packing away equipment, offers encouragement to teammates, and welcomes new athletes into programs. His positive attitude and willingness to help create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included.
As a natural leader, Robins leads by example. He treats coaches, officials, volunteers, opponents, and fellow athletes with respect, demonstrating the kind of sportsmanship that lies at the heart of Special Olympics.

Beyond his participation in sport, Robins has also given back to Special Olympics through volunteer service and fundraising efforts. He has supported initiatives that help strengthen local programs and expand opportunities for athletes. These contributions reflect his belief in the power of sport to bring people together, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.
