When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved with Special Olympics roughly 12 years ago. My brother played basketball at the time on the North Shore team, and I would always watch. Slowly over a year or two, I got more involved with the team until become a full on coach! My brother no longer plays, but I am back every year to coach.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
Yes, this is my first National games for SOBC!
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
I am beyond excited to represent Team BC on a global stage. Being able to have the opportunity to coach such an amazing team and be along for the ride is truly special.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
Obviously, our goal for nationals is to win GOLD and move on to worlds in Chile!
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Going to provincials in Prince George and winning gold! It was so exciting to watch my team accomplish their goal and celebrate. Seeing their excitement was truly touching.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
My athletes train every week for moments like this. Seeing the obstacles they have overcome in their life and the joy in their life really inspires me to try and better myself everyday. SO athletes are the strongest community I have been involved in and I am so proud to call them all family.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
I am excited to see everyone peak and become their best version of themselves before games.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Special Olympics changed my life in such a positive way. Even if you can only give one hour a month, I am 100% sure you will not regret it. Watching, coaching or volunteering for SO has inspired me in so many ways.
