When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I started volunteering in 2013 after my son became an athlete. First, I helped out wherever help was needed. 10 years ago, I started coaching.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
I went to two Winter Games. Thunder Bay and Calgary. Both times as one of the coaches for the great snowshoeing team with Maureen Hunter.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
It makes me proud to be able to support our amazing athletes and to help them shine.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
To be the best support that I can be for all of the athletes. To also support my fellow coaches and to learn and improve so that I come home as a better coach than I was before. I also want to share in the joy of the games.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
Most are so proud that their dedication paid off. It literally means the world to them and so it should.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
The bonding and support that the athletes give to each other is one of the best and most exciting things to witness.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
It has been the most enriching part in my life in the last 12 years. I love every moment of being a coach and spending time with our amazing athletes.
