When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I got involved with Special Olympics in 2012 coaching the Active Start & Fundamental Program. I started coaching softball in 2018.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

Yes, this will be my first Special Olympics Canada Games.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?

Being part of Special Olympics has been and continues to be an impactful experience for me. It brings together two things I value deeply: genuine inclusion and sport. All while creating a community built on acceptance, opportunity, and belonging.

What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?

My goal as a coach at the National Games is to create a positive, inclusive experience where athletes feel confident, supported, and proud of their efforts while growing their skills, building strong teamwork and sportsmanship, and connecting with teams from communities across the country.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

My favourite Special Olympics experience to date is from BC Summer Games 2025 in Prince George. We were fortunate to have two of our Coquitlam softball teams qualify for the BC Summer Games, and the best part of those games was when the teams faced off in the semi-final game. It was fun, competitive, and a brilliant display of respect and sportsmanship from both sides of the diamond.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Competing at the National Games, and in sport more broadly, means that athletes are recognized and treated as true athletes who are seeking meaningful competition, community building through sport, and the opportunity to showcase the dedication they’ve built through countless hours of training.

What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?

I am excited to see the athletes rise to the challenge of competing on such a large stage while also committing their time and energy to additional training. It will be rewarding to watch the team continue to support one another and grow into a strong, cohesive unit as we prepare for the Games.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Do it! You don’t need sports experience to make a difference. Join Special Olympics and be part of a community that inspires growth, builds confidence, and creates lasting impacts for both the athletes and yourself.
