When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I first got involved with Special Olympics in 2019 with the Oceanside chapter. The first sports I participated in were 5-pin bowling, basketball, and club fit. I enjoyed Special Olympics from the beginning, and have been part of it ever since.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
These will be my first National Games.
What were your results in the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games? How did you feel about your performance?
At the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games, my bocce team won the Gold medal in our division. I was very proud of how well my teammates and I did, and it was a very special experience.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being part of Team BC means a lot to me. Being able to represent my province on a national stage makes me feel very proud.
What is your goal for these National Games?
Winning the gold medal and having the chance to advance to the World Games is what I most hope can happen, but I ultimately, I want to do the best I can, and see where that takes me. At the end of the day, regardless of the result, I want to be able to look back and say I worked hard and did the best I could for my team.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Winning the Gold medal at the 2025 Provincial Games with my bocce team and being named to Team BC have been my favourite and most special experiences with Special Olympics to date.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I like the different combined elements: doing well in bocce requires both skill and strategy, and a little bit of luck as well. I also like how, although we play essentially as individuals when we're up and making plays, we're still a team, and our individual plays add up to determine how well our team does.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
If you enjoy playing and competing in sports, and would like the opportunity to meet people and make friends, Special Olympics is a great way to do that. Being part of Special Olympics can give you a real sense of community and being included, and this is very rewarding and meaningful.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I work at my local No Frills grocery store, and I, along with some of my family members, are involved with CR PAWS, which is a local society that helps rescue and find homes for cats. I also am an avid editor/contributor to Wikipedia and FANDOM wikis.
