When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I first joined Special Olympics over 16 years ago. I started with swimming, then I also joined soccer and basketball, but I don't play them anymore. My latest sport with Special Olympics is powerlifting, and that is what I am competing in at Nationals in Medicine Hat.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
Yes, these will be my first National Games.
What were your results in the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games? How did you feel about your performance?
I won a silver medal at the 2025 SOBC Summer Games. I was super strong. My hard work training with my coaches Jason, Jeanine, Katelin, and Matt led to a really successful meet for me. I felt powerful in Prince George.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
I feel powerful and it makes me feel happy and proud. I want to do my very best in Medicine Hat for my teammates, coaches, family, and friends because they all make me happy.
What is your goal for these National Games?
My goal is to set a personal record at the National Games. I hope to win a medal.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite experiences with Special Olympics are going to the SOBC Games in Prince George, as well as the first time I won a powerlifting medal at a meet at Victoria Barbell when I was new to powerlifting.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
Powerlifting makes me feel super strong and healthy.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
At Special Olympics, I have made lots of friends. I have gotten stronger. Also, I have gotten to go on lots of trips with Special Olympics.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I have been a vegan for a long time, and now I am also eating a raw diet. I am the first woman with Down syndrome to swim 5 km and 10 km in the ocean. I am kind to people and I like to make new friends.
