When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
When I turned 20, I moved into supported housing and became interested in joining a sports team. After some research, I discovered the Special Olympics. I initially started with 10-pin bowling, and later expanded my participation to include swimming, 5-pin bowling, bocce, floor hockey, and powerlifting. Nevertheless, my true passion remains with 10-pin bowling!
What were your results in the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games? How did you feel about your performance?
Although I had some challenges with my sight as I was in a new location and surroundings, I put my best foot forward with adjusting to my surroundings. I felt that I did my absolute best and was proud of my performance in my games.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being part of the team brings me a sense of friendship and camaraderie. It allows me to connect with individuals from different regions, which fills me with pride and excitement. I often feel a flutter of butterflies in my stomach, reflecting the joy and anticipation that comes with these experiences.
What is your goal for these National Games?
I will continue to do my best, continuously work on enhancing my personal records, and create new memories and experiences both for myself and with my team.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favorite experience so far has been traveling with the team to Prince George last summer. It was particularly memorable because it was my first time flying on a plane.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I enjoy owning my own bowling ball, especially since I was able to customize it during the purchase. Being surrounded by my teammates enhances the experience for me. I appreciate the satisfying sound of the pins falling, the loud noise of the ball rolling down the lane, and the thrill of throwing the ball. I also love the sound of the machine resetting the pins afterward.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
We always welcome new members and are excited about the opportunity to connect again. It’s always a fun and thrilling experience, and we value the sense of community that makes everyone feel acknowledged and included.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I am legally blind, but that doesn't hold me back from anything. I have a huge passion for Dungeons and Dragons, and if I could I would live in that realm, I would. When I commit to something, I am your ride or die. I possess a great sense of humor and always strive to find the silver lining in life.
