When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I first got involved with Special Olympics six years ago. I have a dance background and wanted to share this experience and knowledge with others, which led me to coaching rhythmic gymnastics. Coaching rhythmic gymnastics has given me a chance to share my dance experience and knowledge while also learning more about the sport of rhythmic gymnastics.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
This will be my first Special Olympics Canada Games and I am so excited!
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 means sharing this incredible opportunity with the many athletes participating in the National Games. It means celebrating the victories and overcoming the obstacles with every athlete on the team.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
My main goal for the National Games is to support each athlete however I can, whether that is through direct coaching, cheering on an athlete or team, or helping outside of the competition space.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite Special Olympics experience to date was watching the athletes I coach in rhythmic gymnastics compete at the Special Olympics 2025 Provincial Games. These athletes worked so hard to prepare and they all showed up and did their best at the Games.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
To my team, competing means showing up and doing your best. Competing does not only happen at competitions at games, but also in all the preparation leading up to a competition.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
Leading up to the National Games, I am excited to see the the Team BC rhythmic gymnasts’ enthusiasm for this experience and the hard work that goes into preparing for this experience.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Coaching is an integral part of Special Olympics. Diversity of coaches is important for Special Olympics because each athlete learns in a different way and feels supported in a different way. The more coaches that are involved in Special Olympics, the more support there is available to Special Olympics athletes.
