When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I became involved in 2009 as a coach for my son Callum in the sport of powerlifting. I love every opportunity to be part of the Special Olympics family. I cannot imagine my life without being involved in some fashion.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
It is an incredible honour to be part of Team BC and the chance to work and learn from the team of coaches and athletes will have a positive impact on my life.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
My goals are to support my team to achieve personal best results. I want to have fun and be the best ambassador for Special Olympics as possible.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Being part of Team Canada 2019 at the World Games at Abu Dhabi. It is a privilege to represent one’s province and country. I have been truly blessed by Special Olympics.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
It will be different for each athlete. For some it will be their first time away from home. For others it will be the competition that they are striving for for. My role is to support them to find their success, however it looks for each athlete.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
I love the Next-Gen Coach program. Better coaching will have better outcomes. What a smart forward thinking idea.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Just do it. You will not regret one moment.
