When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved with Special Olympics in 2014 as a volunteer punter to help support my son who is a Special Olympics athlete.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
This is my second National Games. I was a curling coach for Team BC at the 2024 Calgary Winter National Games.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
It means that I have a unique and special opportunity to team up with an athlete to help them maximize their potential in sport.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
To help my athlete develop better mental focus during competition. And to get a better understanding of my athletes’ capabilities and club range to provide better assistance with yardage and club selection.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite experiences have been the opening ceremonies at the 2024 Games and being able to represent my province with all the other amazing athletes and coaches.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
It’s a sense of pride and accomplishment that they cherish whether they win or not. It’s an experience not everyone gets.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
Improved mental focus that sometimes lapses during Provincial Games.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
SO athletes are probably the most appreciative of their coaches and volunteers. That creates a real sense that you have done something meaningful for someone.
