When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I first joined Special Olympics two years ago. My school reposted an Instagram poster in need of volunteers working with them. It was a great way to give back to the community and gain more leadership skills!

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

Yes this will be my first SO Canada games!

What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?

Being part of the SO Team BC 2026 is an honour. I am always inspired by the other volunteers dedicating so much time to their athletes and the athletes themselves who continue to strive with positivity and vibrancy.

What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?

My goal is self excellence. This opportunity presents many challenges, but what is important is the ability to overcome them. Through meaningful reflections, adaptive problem solving, and an aptitude to learn, these National Games are a testament of strength and resilience.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Provincial Games in Prince George was a fun experience travelling with the whole regional team.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Competing at the National Games is an opportunity to be proud of yourself and have self-actualization in all the hard work that has led up to this moment. This may be the athlete’s first time performing in front of a large audience in which everyone is cheering them on.

What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?

I am excited to see the athletes grow in terms of their athletic proficiency, but also see the friendships flourish within the team. We are bringing athletes all over the province together to unite as one, which is a rare opportunity, and it is exciting to foster a deeper sense of pride and community.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

As Nike would say “Just do it!” There is nothing you can lose but so much you can gain. The SO is a welcoming and an inclusive space that needs people like you!
