When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved with Special Olympics in the Spring of 2023. I was looking for ways to give back to the community and came across an opportunity to volunteer with SOBC. In reading more about the organization, I found that the mission and values of SOBC resonated and aligned with my values and purpose as a coach. My only regret is not getting involved earlier.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
This will be my first Special Olympics Canada Games.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 means a lot to me. Not only do I get the opportunity to coach athletes at a higher level of competition, but I also have the privilege of preparing them for the Games. These athletes worked extremely hard to earn one of the few coveted spots on the team, and for me to have a critical role in ensuring they are adequately prepared to showcase their hard work and dedication to the sport is a special opportunity that I do not take for granted.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite Special Olympics experience to date is the 2025 SOBC Games in Prince George. From watching our athletes hitting personal bests on the platform to the camaraderie and endless banter within our team – that weekend was a representation of why I love what we do.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
The thing I would say to encourage someone to get involved with Special Olympics is this: sign up, be part of something big, witness your impact, and watch it change your life.
