When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved in Special Olympics by observing a rhythmic gymnastics practice that my roommate was attending. After that, I registered and joined right away in 2013, starting Level 1 and moving up Level 3 that I am currently in right now.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
I have competed in three Special Olympics BC Summer Games in rhythmic gymnastics in 2013, 2017, and 2025. I also competed at the National Games in 2018 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I won many medals for my Level 3 routines, and I had a great time with my teammates, coaches and volunteers.
What were your results in the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games? How did you feel about your performance?
Level 3 routines, first place ball, rope second place, ribbon second place and all around second place. I was very happy and proud of myself. All the hard training at home and at practices helped me perform with confidence that I can do anything and have fun and show great sportsmanship to everyone.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Representing my local community and Special Olympics BC – Victoria, and being a good, friendly teammate when travelling together, supporting each other when plans change, be a good example to my peers and always listening to all coaches and training coaches to help me a better athlete in all practices and support me any way to be prepared before the games come up.
What is your goal for these National Games?
To shine, have fun and to not brain freeze when I am performing 5 rhythmic gymnastics routines with confidence, joy, grace. Remembering to breathe and show everyone my fun, bubbly, sassy personality and originality to the judges, crowd, teammates and coaches to see how much I enjoy every moment at the Games.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I love performing on stage for a small or big crowd, having fun with using all the apparatus, doing fun and exciting routines, and getting into different personalities with the music. I also love having good vibes on and off the carpet stage.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Learn more about Special Olympics programs and sports, help with fundraising events and join our fun and hard working athletes, coaches, volunteers and local committee board members. Without them, there would be no athletes at all.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
When I am not training at home or at practices, I love to do diamond painting and arts and crafts. I work at a seniors' retirement home as a housekeeper and server. I enjoy my job and the residents are always happy when they see me come to work. I make their day better by dancing in the lobby and singing the lunch menu.
I also love watching movies and TV shows at home, or going to the movie theatre when there is a good movie playing. I enjoy shopping, listening to music, dogs, coloring books, watching baseball games and going to karaoke or music bingo.
