When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I became involved with Special Olympics through my son's involvement.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
I have attended National Games in Antigonish, NS, Thunder Bay, ON, and Vancouver, BC.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 means I am part of a team that is working hard to help athletes achieve their personal bests in a sport they enjoy.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
My goal for the National Games is to have my athletes trained and well prepared for both on the court and off the court. I will do my best to ensure that they have an amazing time preparing for the games as well as at the games.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite Special Olympics experience was attending the National Games in Antigonish. Seeing how hard each of the athletes had worked to achieve their best, it was truly special to witness how much it showed at the games.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
I believe that my athletes competing at the National Games gain experience both on and off the court that will help them in their futures to be great citizens in their communities. They learn to understand that we all are different and each of us has our strengths and weaknesses, but working as a team can make us stronger.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
I am excited to see the new format for bocce. Being able to play indoors with courts that are sided and on a completely different surface will be both challenging and fun.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
I would encourage anyone wanting to become involved with Special Olympics to attend the programs in their area. I can guarantee you will become hooked on getting involved!
