When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I’ve been around Special Olympics since I was a teenager because my brother is an athlete in many sports. In 2019, I jumped in myself and started coaching 5-pin bowling and soccer. I’ve been all in ever since, and I absolutely love being part of this community.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

Yes, this will be my first SO Canada Games. I have competed in a national soccer tournament as an athlete in the past, so I am excited for a fun new experience as a coach!

What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?

Joining Team BC 2026 is something I feel truly honoured and privileged to be part of. I’m excited to support and empower our athletes, help them feel important and prepared, and be part of a team that really celebrates their hard work and potential.

What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?

My goal is to help our team develop into confident, competitive athletes who play with heart, joy, and respect. I want them to show strong sportsmanship and build a supportive team culture, so that they leave the pitch feeling proud, energized, and ready for whatever comes next.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

My favourite Special Olympics experience was the final game with my provincial team in Prince George. Despite injuries, cold weather, and having no subs, the athletes refused to give up. They fought back from a deficit to win Bronze, with every player stepping up for one another. Our goalie even played defense for the first time so that we could field a full team! The highlight was seeing the pure joy on their faces afterward. It was the strongest display of determination and heart I have ever seen.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Competing at the National Games means so much to the team. They are thrilled to be part of this first-ever team, coming together, working hard, and representing BC with pride.

What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?

I’m excited to watch the team develop both individually and collectively, sharpening skills, building fitness, and strengthening communication. As everyone’s effort comes together, I can’t wait to see the energy, confidence, and cohesion that will make us ready to compete as one Team BC.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Special Olympics is all about fun, friendship, and celebrating what everyone can do. Come be part of it!
