When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
In 2022, I was asked to help create music for some of the figure skaters. From there, I was interested in getting involved with coaching. So I volunteered with the curling team. After that, I was asked to join the softball coaching group. And then one of the coaches asked me if I wanted to help out with basketball. Somehow, that led to golf. I have a tough time saying no to this organization when it comes to helping athletes in the sports I love.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
Yes
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Being able to represent your province at a national competition is an incredible honour.
What is/are your goal(s) for National Games?
To support our athletes and help them perform at their best, and to help them make memories that they'll always remember.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
The first time a team I was coaching was involved in a competition. Being able to watch them take the skills we worked on together and watching them excel in a competitive environment was incredibly rewarding.
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (Or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
They get to compete at the highest level. A chance to take all the years work they've done to get to this level and see the result of that work. A chance to measure themselves against other athletes.
What developments are you excited to see in your Team BC sport team leading up to National Games?
Coming together as a group. Golf is an individual sport, but we're all wearing the Team BC logo, and being able to support everyone on the team is a great thing.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
No matter how much you put in, you'll always get back more. Do it.
