Meet Coach Stuart Holmes

Special Olympics BC – Delta soccer coach Stuart Holmes loves to see the proud smiles on athletes’ faces when they learn a new skill or achieve a goal.

A highly knowledgeable coach, Holmes is passionate about soccer and has been involved in the game for most of his life. Holmes has been coaching with SOBC – Delta for more than 10 years, and he says working with the dedicated, grateful athletes in his Local has been a rewarding experience.

Special Olympics BC – Kamloops founder Marilyn McLean has been honoured for her impact in the world of sport after she was inducted to the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.

McLean joined three others in the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame on April 28, as well-known trainer and equipment manager Gregory “Spike” Wallace, Olympic shot putter Dylan Armstrong and the late George Farquharson, the father of F-Class target shooting, were also enshrined.

Recover from your workouts with foam rolling

Self-myofascial release uses rollers, sticks, and balls to relieve muscle stiffness and soreness while improving flexibility and range of motion. Using your body weight, you can stretch the fascia that covers a muscle and acts as a connector for the body.

Studies show that foam rolling can help relieve the pain you feel in your muscles after exercise. Techniques like foam rolling, lacrosse ball rolling, and stretching are important parts of a training routine. Mobility is the foundation of fitness and quicker recovery will help ensure athletic success!

1) ATP-CP system

2) anaerobic system

3) aerobic system

Special Olympics BC athletes shine at Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games

Special Olympic BC athletes continue to demonstrate that their skill isn’t defined solely by the number of medals they collect. At the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games in late February, SOBC figure skaters, and basketball players put on a powerful display of sportsmanship that shone brighter than any medals handed out during competition.

R-word campaign creates momentum on awareness day

On March 7, people across North America demonstrated their commitment to the 10th annual international Spread the Word to End the Word awareness day campaign.

The event encourages everyone to take the pledge to end the hurtful use of the R-word and choose respect for people with intellectual disabilities. Since its inception a decade ago, more than 763,900 people have signed to take the pledge. While progress has been made, there's still work to be done.
