The 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang have officially come to a close! The snowflakes have settled and Special Olympics Team Canada is now back on Canadian soil after giving it their all over seven days of rigorous competition. Here’s a recap of their final three days. Special Olympics Team Canada and its 13 athletes from BC have been having the experience of a lifetime at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in the Republic of Korea. With the Games already half over, here’s a recap of some of BC’s highlights over the first four exhilarating days of competition:

Day 1 – January 30, 2013

Special Olympics Team Canada’s first day of competition on Wednesday, January 30 was full of divisioning, preliminaries, and evaluation but it wasn’t without some remarkable highlights and a few surprises!

On January 24, the 141 members of Special Olympics Team Canada from all across the country will be coming together in Vancouver in preparation for their departure to the Republic of Korea for the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games.

'Huge gains' shown by Special Olympics Team Canada athletes

Last weekend saw the Special Olympics Team Canada snow sports crew head to the heart of the Rocky Mountains for their training camp. Canmore was home for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing athletes for the weekend. We stayed at the Hostel Bear that gave us a truly lodge experience, and the mission staff, now known as the Kitchen Mamas, doled out meals family style!
