Meet Volunteer Nancy Frost

23 May 2018

Special Olympics BC – Williams Lake volunteer Nancy Frost loves how SOBC gives athletes opportunities to develop sport skills and be part of a team.

Frost serves as Secretary on SOBC – Williams Lake’s Local Committee. She originally got involved with Special Olympics as a youth program volunteer, and Frost says helping young athletes develop physical skills and a love of sport is very rewarding.

Frost says serving on SOBC – Williams Lake’s Local Committee is a wonderful experience and she encourages others to get involved.

When did you start with Special Olympics, and how did you get involved?

About two years ago I started with Special Olympics by getting the training for the FUNdamentals and Active Start programs, which we offer through my work at the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre. Then my boss mentioned that the Local Committee was in need of member so I decide I would join.

What has been your most memorable Special Olympics experience?

I have a passion for working with children and for physical activity, so being part of the Active Start and FUNdamentals programs is very enjoyable. Seeing young children learning the techniques, skills, and love for sports and physical activity is so rewarding.

What is your favourite thing about being involved with SOBC?

My favourite thing about being involved with SOBC is knowing that the athletes have opportunities to be involved in sports and part of a team. I also really enjoy hearing and seeing the physical and social growth and accomplishments that our local athletes have been making. Many friendships are developing and many of the athletes are challenging themselves by setting new goals.

What would you like others to know about SOBC – Williams Lake?

I would like others to know the huge positive impact that SOBC provides each of the individual athletes. The Local Committee is very rewarding to be part of and we are always looking for more volunteers.
