Meet a Sponsor: Wheaton Precious Metals

12 April 2018

Wheaton Precious Metals (formerly Silver Wheaton) started their support of Special Olympics BC in 2006 as a Presenting Sponsor of the Sports Celebrities Festival. Since then, Wheaton Precious Metals has continued to support this important event every year, helping this inspiring and interactive gala raise over $5 million to date for SOBC and the Canucks for Kids Fund.

In 2009, Wheaton Precious Metals increased their support by becoming a significant and ongoing sponsor of the Goldcorp Invitational Golf Tournament. The Vancouver-based company also stepped forward in 2014 as an important sponsor of the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Vancouver.

Wheaton Precious Metals CEO Randy Smallwood has also generously supported SOBC through his efforts as a Director since 2012. In September 2016, he took on the role of Board Chair, and was re-elected to this position in September 2017.

Additionally, Smallwood took the time to serve as Honorary General Manager for Team BC at the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Smallwood attended team training camps before the Games, and travelled to Newfoundland to cheer on athletes at their events.

“I very much enjoyed being part of the Games and was honoured to be selected for this role,” says Smallwood. “I feel that B.C. has one of the best Special Olympics programs in Canada, and Wheaton Precious Metals is proud to support their work.”

We are so grateful for Wheaton Precious Metals’ dedication to Special Olympics BC and thank them for being an important and steadfast supporter of our work. They have truly made a difference to SOBC and athletes with intellectual disabilities across the province.
