Athletes, community support inspire at 2015 SOBC Winter Games

The way Max Nelson sees it, Special Olympics athletes are superheroes.

“When people say special needs, I don’t think of that, I think we have special powers,” the Special Olympics BC – Quesnel snowshoeing athlete said after a day of giving his all racing in the 2015 SOBC Winter Games.

The first day of competition at the 2015 Special Olympics BC Winter Games saw the first medals of the Games awarded to proud speed skaters, and many outstanding performances delivered by the athletes across all seven sports. There were so many smiles and so much pride!

We caught up with athletes in action at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, South Kamloops and John Peterson secondary schools, and Sun Peaks Resort.

2015 SOBC Winter Games kicking off in Kamloops

On February 19 to 21, the Special Olympics BC Winter Games are returning to Kamloops for the first time in 12 years, and Kamloops is giving a very warm welcome.

“Kamloops has really stepped up. The community has rallied to help us and we’ve had a great response from volunteers and sponsors. We’re going to put on a great Games and a great experience for these athletes,” 2015 SOBC Winter Games Chair Pat Davis said.

Travis Lulay, Don Hay backing 2015 SOBC Winter Games

Travis Lulay and Don Hay will lend star support to the 2015 Special Olympics BC Winter Games in Kamloops next week, serving as Honorary Coaches walking with regional teams into the Games Opening Ceremony on February 19.

The City of Kamloops is flying the SOBC flag outside the Tournament Capital Centre, the 2015 Games Opening Ceremony venue!

2015 SOBC Winter Games announces new sponsors

2015 SOBC Winter Games one year away

One year away from the 2015 Special Olympics BC Winter Games in Kamloops, SOBC is pleased to announce the dates when 600 athletes from all over the province will compete with determination and pride in seven winter sports.

The 2015 SOBC Winter Games will be held on February 19 to 21 next year, with the Opening Ceremonies kicking off the event on February 19 and competitions taking place on February 20 and 21.

Great cross-country skiing races will be part of the action in the seven sports in the 2015 SOBC Winter Games in Kamloops.
