WELCOME TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS BC
Since 1980, Special Olympics BC (SOBC), a registered
charitable organization, has provided sports programs and
competitions to meet the needs and interests of individuals with
intellectual disabilities, enriching lives and celebrating personal
achievement through positive sports experiences. Today, over 3,500
athletes participate in Special Olympics BC sports
programs in 53 communities across British Columbia.
Parents, guardians, caregivers, and friends of Special Olympics
BC athletes play an important role in each
athlete’s success. You make a difference by encouraging
athletes to make healthy lifestyle choices, by cheering them on at
practices and competitions, and by providing all-around
support.
Family and friends also play an important role in the Special
Olympics BC organization by helping to create a positive
environment at Special Olympics events and by getting involved as
administrative volunteers and coaches.
At the same time, involvement in Special Olympics
BC provides family and friends of Special Olympics
athletes with opportunities to:
-
Experience the satisfaction of watching your loved one develop
and succeed in sport and in life!
-
Meet others who understand the unique rewards and challenges of
having a loved one with an intellectual disability.
-
Get involved in Special Olympics athletic and social functions
and fundraising events.
-
Develop a network of support and friendship with athletes and
volunteers.
